A Self-Service Library of Knowledge
The purpose of this Livroteca is to share literature and make room for new ways of seeing. I am guided by the principle that knowledge should be available to everyone and serve the common good, free of charge.
Some of this literature comes from the more than six hundred books in my small personal library, which I am gradually digitising. Other titles are obtained online, free of charge or purchased, and subsequently improved where appropriate.
There is life beyond the marketplace
Reducing the vast magnificence of the cosmos to the short-sighted pursuit of turning everything into a commodity limits our individual and collective experience of the grandeur around us.
At a time when we are invited to take a more encompassing view of the Whole that surrounds us, it makes little sense to try to observe and understand that vastness through the eye of a needle.
A personal project, a partnership with AI
This project began in 2021, before artificial intelligence became part of my working process. It started with a wish to share literature and bring knowledge within everyone's reach. That intention remains, but there are now new ways to fulfil it.
This new version of the website was built from scratch by AI, under my direction. My role was to define the project's identity and purpose, try out the result and identify the adjustments and finishing touches it needed. AI gave shape to the ideas, built the features and refined the website through that dialogue.
The Livroteca is thus a practical expression of AI as a cognitive tool: a resource we can think with, explore possibilities with and use to turn intentions into tangible results. This collaboration also extends to translating, revising and editing the books.
The choices, direction and responsibility for what is made available here remain mine. Working with AI does not remove the need for care, verification or critical judgement.
I see this experience as an example of artificial intelligence's potential when used with discernment and constructive intent. Beyond speeding up production, it can extend our abilities and help put them to work for individual and collective well-being. Its value also lies in the mindset of those who use it and the purpose guiding that use.
I continue to look after this space for pleasure, at my own pace. The Livroteca itself bears witness to that learning and collaboration: a personal project finding new ways to share through technology.
This is a Self-Service Library of Knowledge. Help yourself and enjoy.
